Fashions The fashion industry is always running in high gear and you can read about something that is happening in the fashion industry every time you pick up a magazine or newspaper. It is featured in movies like "The Devil Wears Prada" and in books such as "How To Be A Budget Fashionista" by Kathryn Finney. Much of what we do on a daily basis is dictated by styles and fashions from the clothing industry and change, in one way or another, is always taking place when it comes to what is in style. Something new is introduced by the fashion design industry every single day as the "what is in style now" fashion. Fashion experts look at and study trends in popular dress and up to date styles and it is their jobs to know what is hot and what is not. Fashion design is one of the largest, most competitive, industries in the world. Take a look around you, and look at yourself. Everyone, including you, are dressed in something that was designed by somebody, somewhere. Whether it is clothing such as dresses, skirts, pants, blazers, suits, blouses, shirts, ties, shoes, hats, scarves, underwear, jackets, coats, or other apparel, you are going to find a designer label on them. You have probably heard of these well know names in the fashion industry, Ives Saint Laurent, Gloria Vanderbilt, Prada, Calvin Klein, Versace, Ralph Lauren, Elizabeth Arden, Christian Dior, Georgio Armani, Pierre Cardin, Oleg Cassini, and Bill Blass, just to name a few. And there are many other name brands that have a direct influence on the clothes we buy and wear such a South Pole, Levi, Delicates, St. Johns Bay, Polo, Lee, Sag Harbor, Liz Baker, and Eddie Bauer. And the list goes on and on. Several celebrities and sports figures have jumped into the fashion craze as well; Jennifer Lopez "J-Lo," Michael Jordan, Sean John by Sean "P Diddy" Combs, Roc-A-Wear by J.Z., and the Olsen twins, Mary-Kate and Ashley, have all become well known fashion icons. But fashions go much further than this. Colleges and professional sports teams play a big role in what is worn around the world. Most colleges sell clothing with their names and logos on them. Popular college name brands include the Duke Blue Devils, the UCLA Bruins, the Miami Hurricanes, the Texas Longhorns, the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame, the Oklahoma Sooners, and the Oregon Ducks. Professional team brand names of clothing are offered by the Carolina Panthers, the Toronto Raptors, the St. Louis Cardinals, and the San Jose Sharks, and all the other professional teams. Tennis and sports shoe companies such as Nike, British Knights, Converse, Adidas, Asics, New Balance, Rebok and K-swiss offer different styles and comfort levels in sports shoes. The fashion industry is one that never sleeps and the competition is so fierce that one misstep by any company can mean disaster for it's sales and it's reputation. ********** |
