The End of The Year

As the new year arrives, you should know that you have witnessed the past and that you will live in the future.

Christmas has come and gone and the end of the year is near. Now it is time to look back at the events that shaped the past year, how we reacted to them, and then to ponder on what can be done to make the new year better for ourselves and for those around us.

Most people begin the year with a sense of hope, a sense of purpose, and the desire to make it to the end in a better position than they were in when it started. We don't know what the future holds for us but at the end of the year, we can count our blessings and pray that next year will be better than the one we just lived through.

This has been a unique year that leaves us with some amazing memories. There have been events that have touched us and changed the way we live. We have met new people, lost touch with others, seen new lives come into being and we've seen death come to others.

You may not think that the past year has changed the way you are but take a look in the mirror. You've grown a year older and hopefully a year wiser. You may have added a few pounds or lost some weight.

Whether you know it or not, you've found answers to some of the questions that are forever on your mind. You should know by now that life doesn't end with this year but moves on to the next.

What makes the ending to this year so special is that it is the key that opens the door to your future. Without the ending of the old year, there would be no new beginnings. The new year allows you to bring a fresh perspective to your life even as you leave a part of you behind with the old year.

You may wonder what it is you are leaving behind but you shouldn't worry about it. Don't fret! It's what you are taking with you that counts. Reflecting on the past year is a good thing. But don't dwell on it too long because anything you leave behind stays behind.

Reality is what you take into the new year with you. If you can touch it, see it, smell it, feel it, taste it, or hear it, it's still with you. Thank God for letting you witness the end of this year because without it, you won't be around to see the coming new year.
