Scholarships For Mexican Americans
There are many scholarships and grants available for Mexican American students to help pay for college and other higher educational learning experiences. Below is a partial list of scholarships and grants that are given by businesses, the government, private citizens, schools, churches, and other organizations.
CCNMA Scholarship
Type of Award: Scholarship, renewable
Intended Use: For full-time undergraduate or graduate study at accredited postsecondary institution.
Eligibility: Applicant must be Mexican American, Hispanic American, or Puerto Rican.
Basis for selection: Completion/talent/interest in writing/journalism. Major/career interest in journalism. applicant musst demonstrate financial need, high academic achievement, seriousness of purpose and service orientation.
Application requirements: Interview, recommendations, essay, transcript,. Proof of fell-time enrollment. Samples of work: newspaper clips, photographs, audio or television tapes.
Additional information: Must be a Latino resident of California attending school in or out of state, or nonresident attending school in California.

Latino Diamante Scholarship Fund
Type of award: Scholarship.
Intended use: For freshmen or sophomore study. Designated institutions: North Carolina institutions.
Eligibility: Applicant must be Hispanic American. Applicant must be residing in North Carolina.

MassMutual Multicultural College Scholarship
Type of award: Scholarship
Intended use: For full-time sophomore, junior or senior study at accredited postsecondary institution in the United States
Eligibility: Applicant must be Asian American, African American, Mexican American, Hispanic American, Puerto Rican or Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander. Applicant must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
Basis for selection: Major/career interest in accounting; business; exonomics; engineering; finance/banking; marketing; mathmatics or statistics. Applicant must demonstrate finacial need and high academic achievement.
Application requirements: FASFA.
Additional information: Minimum 3.0 GPA. Must have a permanent address in one of the following cities: Atlanta, Houston, Los Angeles, or San Francisco. Visit Website for deadline.

Mexican American Grocers Association Scholarship
Type of award: Scholarship
Intended use: For full-time sophomore, junior or senior study at accredited 4-year institution in the United States
Eligibility: Applicant must be Mexican American or Hispanic American.
Basis for selection: Major/career interest in business or business/management/administration. Applicant must demonstrate financial need and high academic achievement.
Application requirements: Essay, transcript.
Additional information: Minimum 2.5 GPA. Applications may be obtained beginning in April by sending a SASE. Completed application must be postmarked between June 1 and July 31. Awards presented in October or November.

Intended use: For junior, senior, master's or doctoral study at post-secondary institution in or outside United States. Designated institutions: Institutions in the United States or Puerto Rico.

Basis for selection: Major/career interest in computer/information sciences or engineering, computer. Applicant must demonstrate financial need.

Los Padres Foundation College Tuition Assistance Program
Type of award: Scholarship
Intended use: For full-time undergraduate or graduate study at 4-year or graduate institution in United States.
Eligibility: Applicant must be Mexican American or Hispanic American or Puerto Rican. Applicant must be high school senior. Applicant must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident residing in New York or New Jersey.
Basis for selection: Applicant must demonstrate seriousness of purpose and service orientation.
Additional information: Applicant must have minimum 3.0 GPA and proof of low income. Applicant must be first generation in family to attend college. Award is renewable up to four years. Must complete 100 hours of community service by June 1st of first college year. Application available at financial aid office, high school counselor's office, and online.

Second Chance Program
Type of award: Scholarship
Intended use: For undergraduate study at at accredited vocational, 2-year or 4-year or graduate institution.
Eligibility: Applicant must be Mexican American, Hispanic American or Puerto Rican. Applicant must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident residing in Puerto Rico, New York or New Jersey.
Basis for selection: Applicant must demonstrate financial need.
Additional information: Applicant must have high school diploma or GED and be out of high school for more than a year prior to submitting and never attended a postsecondary institution. Awardees must complete 100 hours of non-faith-based community service by June 1 of the first year in program.
